Lightning Policy

Swim School Lightning Policy

At Lis' Swim School (The swim school, located at 36 Buckingham Ave, Craighall Park), the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Due to the unpredictable nature of lightning and the risks thereof, we have established the following lightning policy:

Safety First

In the event of lightning or thunder within a 10 km radius, we reserve the right to cancel, delay, or suspend lessons immediately and without prior notice. All swimmers, parents, and guardians are required to leave the property immediately. The entrance to the swim school will be closed, and all staff will seek shelter. This policy follows the local safety guidelines for swimming during electrical storms (Central Gauteng Aquatics and Swim South Africa).

Cancellation of Lessons

Lessons may be canceled at any time if lightning is detected within a 10 km radius. Our instructors or management will make this decision based on either a lightning app or the sound of thunder.

Notification Procedure

We will make every effort to notify parents, guardians, and students about cancellations as early as possible through our standard communication channels (e.g., WhatsApp, email). However, due to the sudden nature of storms, cancellations may be made without prior notice, which we reserve the right to do.

Rescheduling & Refunds

Lessons canceled due to lightning are forfeited.

Resumption of Lessons

Entry to the swim school and the resumption of lessons will be allowed only when lightning has been more than 15 km away for at least 20 minutes.

Communication Channels

We encourage parents and guardians to monitor weather conditions and check their communication platforms for urgent updates from our team. A lightning app can also be downloaded to stay informed.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring the safety of everyone at our swim school.
